Os brasileiros Rafael Matos e Marcelo Melo alcançaram a decisão do torneio de duplas do Rio Open após derrotarem o italiano Luciano Darderi e o argentino Mariano Navone por 2 sets a 1, parciais de 6/7 (3/7), 6/3 e 10/5, na noite desta sexta-feira (21) no Jockey Club Brasileiro, no Rio de Janeiro.
“É muito especial. O Rafa ganhou aqui ano passado e para mim é muito bom voltar a uma final. Com a minha experiência e a energia dele, quem sabe possamos levantar o troféu como uma dupla 100% brasileira”, declarou Marcelo Melo após a partida.
Para ficar com o título, a dupla brasileira terá que medir forças na decisão, no próximo sábado (22) na quadra Guga Kuerten, com os espanhóis Jaume Munar e Pedro Martínez.
Queda de Zverev
Na chave de simples o resultado mais surpreendente foi a queda do cabeça de chave número um da competição, o alemão Alexander Zverev, que foi derrotado pelo argentino Francisco Comesana por 2 sets a 1 (parciais de 4/6, 6/3 e 6/4) pelas quartas de final.
Após superar o tenista número dois do mundo, Comesana, que é o número 86 do ranking, pega o vencedor do confronto entre o francês Alexadre Müller, algoz do brasileiro João Fonseca no Rio Open, e o argentino Francisco Cerundolo.
