A partir de setembro, a bandeira tarifária vermelha patamar 2 entra em vigor, resultando em um acréscimo de R$ 7 a cada 100 kWh consumidos. Esta mudança ocorre após mais de três anos de vigência da bandeira verde, com uma breve interrupção para a bandeira amarela.
Desde agosto de 2021, as contas de luz estavam sem custos adicionais, mas agora retornam à bandeira vermelha. A Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (Aneel) atribui a alta a fatores como o clima seco e a falta de chuvas, que devem continuar. Devido a essas condições, a agência precisará acionar as usinas térmicas, o que aumenta os custos operacionais do sistema e com isso, será repassado aos consumidores.
A sequência de bandeiras verdes, iniciada em abril de 2022, foi interrompida apenas uma vez em julho de 2024 pela bandeira amarela.
