Uma preocupação crescente na China tem sido a disseminação do metapneumovírus humano (HMPV). Autoridades locais estão atentas à propagação deste vírus respiratório, cujas infecções têm sobrecarregado hospitais e gerado grande repercussão nas redes sociais, com sintomas que lembram os da Covid-19.
Desde dezembro, autoridades chinesas estão em alerta e monitorando a situação. A origem do vírus ainda não foi identificada.
O HMPV tem afetado especialmente crianças e se espalhou pelo norte do país. Em resposta, órgãos de saúde implementaram medidas emergenciais para controlar a disseminação, embora o governo de Pequim tenha descrito a situação como um evento sazonal, de acordo com o jornal britânico The Independent.
Na última sexta-feira (3), Mao Ning, Porta-voz do Ministério das Relações Exteriores da China, afirmou que infecções respiratórias costumam aumentar durante o inverno. O HMPV, identificado pela primeira vez em 2001, pode causar doenças respiratórias como rinite, sinusite, pneumonia e bronquite, e apresenta semelhanças com a gripe.
Os sintomas típicos incluem:
- Tosse
- Febre
- Dor de garganta
- Falta de ar
- Nariz entupido ou escorrendo
A transmissão do vírus ocorre através do contato direto com pessoas infectadas ou superfícies contaminadas. Crianças e idosos são os mais vulneráveis ao metapneumovírus.
