Conforme Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF), o acidente aconteceu por volta das 14h, no km 160, da BR-277. O motorista do Civic seguia na pista sentido Palmeira e não resistiu ao acidente.
O jovem era morador de Rio Azul, a cerca de 100 km do local do acidente. Ele era conhecido na cidade onde morava por fazer sucesso em times de futebol amador. Após a confirmação da morte, o Tigres FC prestou uma homenagem ao ex-atleta.
